Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of vision loss for people over the age of 50. The optic nerve which connects your eye to your brain can become damaged in glaucoma. It is usually painless and does not cause any symptoms until it is quite advanced. If you lose your vision, it can’t be brought back. It is therefore important to have regular eye health checks which test for glaucoma at an early stage. With early diagnosis, careful monitoring and regular treatment, the vast majority of people retain useful sight for life.
Risk Factors Includes:
- African American, Irish, Russian, Japanese, Hispanic, Inuit, or Scandinavian descent
- Age over 40
- A family history of glaucoma
- Poor vision
- Diabetes
- Certain steroid medications such as prednisone
- An injury to your eye
- High blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, or sickle cell anemia
- High eye pressure
- Near-sightedness or far-sightedness
The only way to know if you have glaucoma is to have your eyes checked periodically. A glaucoma assessment includes a series of tests that allows to diagnose the disease, so further treatment can be given for management of the disease.

- Visual Field
- CCT
- Pascal
- OCT RNFL & GCL Scan
- Fundus Disc Photography
